Umbrella Day! February 10th celebrates National Umbrella Day! Umbrellas were created over 4,000 years ago, and the Chinese first waterproofed their paper umbrellas for use in the rain. The first umbrella shop opened in England in 1830, and the word “umbrella” comes from the Latin word “umbra” meaning shade or shadow. Umbrellas are used in the rain, to shield us from sun and even as a fashion accessory! They are also called Bumbershoots and Brollys!
