Juniper Pine Tree Atop Red Rocks in the Beautiful Blue Sky! Utah Juniper is a short tree, up to 20 feet tall with twisted, gnarled trunks. Scale like needles with blue gray berries are female cones, on trees that make up the pinyon-juniper woodland that covers the Southwest high elevation deserts & dominate scrubby looking ridges & mesa tops. Seeds spread by birds & coyotes eat them & deposit them through waste. They served as fuel for fire, building material, medicine & food for native peoples.
