In the Desert! Joshua Trees in the Mojave Desert! Joshua Tree National Monument! Dotting the desert landscape in Joshua Tree National Monument, is the relative of the Agave family called Yucca brevifolia, a succulent, a type of plant that stores water. These spindly, spikey, twisty trees are named for the biblical figure Joshua by 19th century Mormon settlers who felt the outstretched tree limbs guided them along their westward journey.
