Protected, the koala is an arboreal herbivore marsupial, native to Australia, relatives of the wombats. Tailless, weighing up to approximately 33 pounds, sleeping up to 20 hours a day. The species is vulnerable & sanctuaries have been established, & mother’s raise their babies, called joeys, in their pouches for up to 7 months.
