a good antivirus has a detection algorithm that can find automatically new viruses.
What I’m saying is that the antivirus have a purpose and the operating system another purpose. An antivirus is never perfect but at least you are not a sitting duck. If you blindly believe the operating system can’t be infected only because who made it say so, and you have no antivirus, when you got infected it will be too late. They will patch the system eventually, but all your password, bank information or whatever else is long gone in the hands of some criminals.

MBMedia saidI’ll leave the subjective parts out of this response but I hope you realize General Motors vehicles are some of the worst on the market. Brand new ones are okay, I’m sure, as is anything new, but give her a couple of years and you’ll be shelling out money on repairs every other day. Also, I don’t know any millionaires that drive Fords…

A Mac vs. a PC is like comparing a BMW with a Ford. Both perform about the same things but one is more expensive and performs the tasks better and more securely, it is also made from better materials and looks better. You’re right, ford’s usage of powdered metallurgy for most of it’s parts does make its parts tend to have stronger tensile strengths than the average BMW ’s parts, and they do tend to keep just as strict or even more strict machining tolerances which historically has made them more reliable. And that may be why more U.S. millionaires drive ford than any other brand of vehicle. And I agree that ford’s look better! But I think you’re wrong about price, on average fords are actually cheaper I think.
Yes yes…I was being sarcastic, I know you were meaning to say that the BMW was the better one. I’m just pointing out that sometimes we let our preconceptions influence us a bit too much without ever checking up on them to see if they’re real. Whether you choose mac or PC, do it by researching your actual needs and how each one will fit them, don’t just think of the preconceptions, cuz sometimes they’re more related to the ad campaigns than the actual products

Yeaaaaah…GM != Ford…so we’ll just not even bother talking about that point of yours…. But almost 10% of all U.S. millionaires drive ford. Second is Cadillac, and third is Lincoln (owned by ford). So maybe you just don’t know many millionaires
But what I really want to say is:........is this really what you got from the point I was making?!
It was about doing research for yourself without letting preconceptions influence your final results, get with it bud!
Regarding antivirus, now a days on Windows you can just install Microsoft Security Essentials and that’s it. It beats the pants off of anything, totally out of the way, and performs very well. Since installing it I have not had to even think about it once. It’s as if Apple made it!
AV is additional preemptive security basically. Some things will try and harm your computer, these are probably the easiest to stop. The worst though are the ones that only listen silently and steal. And you can’t fix damage to your personal information and passwords by simply updating the system. Not saying OSX isn’t inherently more secure, it is… but that does not mean it doesn’t have exploitable vulnerabilities.
Apple is also very slow to fix these things. AV definitions (not the software) usually update silently at least once a day.
Just thought id weigh in – personally – so long as i have fireworks and some kind of notepad++ editor im all set – the OS to me is irrelevant
Im kind of old school tho and have been a pc user primarily all my life, and they way i see it is that if the tools I have work well for me, I wont go looking for replacements unless I cant fulfil a task with what’s I have at hand – I guess my lack of £ doesnt really help though lol
My contribution:
I used to be an avid pc guy, building my own systems and pouring money into them, always making sure I could play the latest games. Since 2009 I’ve switched completely to Apple’s ecosystem. Nowadays I can’t imagine working without the Terminal, TextMate, Transmit, Git, Pow, Reeder, Tower and lots of other really awesome applications.
What makes OS X stand out for me is the astonishing quality of developers for the platform. It just feels as if OS X developers are genuinely better at building great software that actually works.
Also I’m kind of a hipster and adore great design.

Where are you getting these statistics from? Also, it doesn’t matter what these millionaires are driving. Ask anyone or do a quick search on Google and you’ll see how well American cars are made. You will quickly notice how none of the overall top rated cars are American (how surprising!). And then people wonder why they are constantly shelling out money on repairs when they could have just went with a Japanese car that’ll last…

And what about those ones that have used Mac for some time and found no answer at all to that question?
I was always such a pro PC guy until I got my MBP …will never go back.
