Hello,
I am working on a site where users can sign up, refer other people, watch videos, and there will also be a point system. We will be using more features afterwards too like shop (maybe).
What CMS would be best? I don’t want the site too feel all CMS like either. It will look like a normal HTML page but we need the functionality of a CMS .
Is it better to use a CMS , make a theme and even edit the CMS so that it works the way I want or is it best to just make our own script?
Your best bet would probably be to build a custom system. But if You absolutely must use a CMS , i would say drupal is your best bet, as you will find that most of that functionality is already made available as drupal modules, etc.
good luck

My opinion is this if you truly want it to succeed into anything.

You can use WordPress + PodsCMS too, it’s really useful…
wordpress + buddypress will do the job, as you will have the users signup. referring could be done using one of the invites plugines available in the plugin directory of buddypress. Same case with video upload and watch only the points system that you need to custom make it I guess. Shop can be done using wordpress e-commerce plugin.

Can you customize Wordpress so that it only shows what I exactly want to display?
Hi, lawhater. I think that Wordpress is the most easy to use but Drupal is the best for your project. Drupal + modules (cck, views, voting api, invitation,..) Drupal have all functions that you need and more of others.
