Im having problems with a site for a client. First off, some info about the site: its supposed to look really random, so thats why the widgets spawn randomly, and random words fly around in the background.

There is a widget in there called VIDEO . Now this is where it starts acting weird. What is supposed to happen, is that video is loaded, and stopped at somewhere in the first few frames. Pressing play will make it play, and pressing NEW VIDEO will load a new video, with same attributes (stop at first frame)

The problem is in the video bit of it. Apparently, it works fine in FF, but in Opera it acts strange. Preloader keeps running, no video, sometimes video runs, sometimes it doesnt, very strange stuff is going on in there. But, this does not happen on my end, only on clients end. Client is reliable enough to know its not a scam, already got payed and stuff :)

What I would like to ask a few of you MAC users, could you take a look on the site, and tell me what happens with the VIDEO widget? Thanks in advance guys.

I’ve refreshed the page and now it works, at the first attempt it was giving the issue you were talking about, there was the buffering circle preloader going forever… always on safari… on firefox it worked at first attempt… always on mac

Probably there is something wrong with the listeners of the video, how do you handle the buffering state?

So its really a MAC + Safari issue.. Cause when I run it in any browser, it just works. When client views in FF on MAC it works, but when he tests it in Safari it doesnt. Seems to be the same on yours then.

Ive used this code for the stopping on start:
vid.addEventListener("start",function(){
     vid.pause();
});

You think its related to the listeners? Why?
Havent done anything with the buffering, yet.

Well it’s hard to say, if you didn’t set a buffering listener, how did you handle the circle preloader that I’ve seen before?

Btw, I know how to reproduce the issue.

If I empty the cache and I refresh the page, if the video player is opened at start sometimes it stays on the buffering status, showing the circle preloader and sometimes it shows the circle preloader and then it starts in the right way…

Anyway it works fine almost always, just sometimes it doesn’t load the video… the issue can also depends on the video, you can try with a different flv to check if the problem is related to the video file.

The preloader is just an animation that gets faded out once the video is shown. It has no actual buffering action or anything like that.

What happens if you press New Video? Does this happen each time you do this?

Have tested with a few other videos, same issue

Ill test it out with the client even further then, trying out the listener actions. Maybe it has some effect changing those. Thanks for the help so far :)

Well, by the way it seems to work fine almost always… probably the first crash was caused by the flying words… that kind of animation on big screens are dangerous :-)

In any case make the loading bar red to easily check if the video is loading, maybe sometimes it takes just a long time to load…
