Wassup? I finally feel like we can relate… yes thats right, I’ve joined the darkside! :O

I’m now sporting a very shiny and souped up 17” MBP :) woot! :P

I must admit although I love my PC more i’m pretty impressed and LURRRRRRVE the touchpad :)

So, I know there’s quite a few MAC users across the marketplaces so I have a couple of questions for you all if you dont mind… :)

I’ve currently installed VMFusion so I can have my CS5 on W7 via Bootcamp and also OpenOffice, VLC etc… are there any really cool mac only apps that I should check out? What do you use? :)

Secondly, I now need a case so I can keep it all shiny and pretty :) can anyone recommend any cases for a 17” macbook / laptop (i’d like to keep a small notepad in the case for doodling too so one with more than just the laptop pocket would be ace) ? Any suggestions, what do you have?

Any help appreciated :)

Cheers,

Matt / MSFX

Hey MSFX ,

I’ve got a MacBook Pro too, congrats on your newest addition!

With mine I use 2 different bags; a neoprene sleeve for when I am not carrying much else, and a messenger bag for when I need to take some stuff along with me. The sleeve works well for throwing my laptop in my backpack, it works great at absorbing shocks, and obviously protects against scratches. The brand is InCase, and you can check it out here:

The main bag I use though is a messenger bag by a small company named Booq, and I really can’t recommend any other product more than this bag. I have had mine for going on 7 years now, and the whole bag is still in perfect condition, zippers, vinyl, etc, and I used it a lot every day. They are a little expensive ($150-$200) but the attention to detail and rugged construction is seriously worth the money.

The bags have great storage space, and really carry the weight comfortably. When I travel I usually stuff my macbook, power adapter, mouse, wireless keyboard, 4 external hard drives, compact camera, and a number of cables and other accessories with me, and they all fit inside of it really well. You can check out Booq’s stuff here:

Good luck on your bag search!

ugh the thought of booting into windows just ruins it. Why? Can’t you just download the Mac version of CS5 and use your serial for it? That’s what I would do.

As for software that’s mac only… the iLife suite is nice, handbrake, I really only use the Adobe CS5 , iPhoto, safari, mail, and textEdit. But I’d take os X over windoz any day, but I made that choice 10 years ago.

Welcome to the club. And nice choice on the matte display. Love it.

Congrats Matt ;) ,

Yep, it’s a nice piece of hardware right there. BTW , is that one of the new ones with the Core i7?

There are a few hard cases out for the Macbooks, plastic (glossy & matte) and Aluminum Or are you looking for a Vinyl or leather laptop case?

Let me know I know people who know some people lol. :D No seriously, I might find you a good affordable case.

That’s what I thought too.. doesn’t look like a unibody, the rim of the screen isn’t as dark! :o

Good job on switching to mac! Regarding mac-software.. I’d get as much native apps instead of windows apps as you can – in the end it just works smoother. VLC , for example, exists for mac just as well.

The more you use it, the more great applications you’ll find to replace your windows-needs. Currently, I only use parallels to run Windows Live Messenger (since there’s no client for mac that supports Live Groups, and me and my friends use that as a chatbox sort of thing ;) )

I bought the same version, but 15”...after six months of usage it broke itself with a kernel panic. The motherboard fried itself. I gave that piece of crap away and went back to my clunky PC. At least it works after years of stressed work and it doesn’t cost an eye. :D

Good luck with your new toy! :bigwink:
