The trick is to do some research and choose something that’s going to convert well. Try focusing on a single item first, and build something around it that’s going to attract users who will be interested in buying that item. You need to add value that will attract users and convert buyers. A review is one simple way.

There’s plenty of money to be made in referrals :)

Also, just because a referral doesn’t make a deposit doesn’t mean you don’t earn money. You still get a cut of the first purchase if they buy directly.

Good luck! :)

I’ve made $500 just by putting a referral link in my Twitter bio. :D

A trick I’ve been using (I usually get 20-30 referral deposits / purchases per month) is to link to live previews, and then in the live preview include referral links back to the item the live preview is for. So a user looks at the live preview, then clicks on your “Buy Now” button, which has a referral code on it.

In my understanding, you only win referrals for users that never visited any Envato marketplace before clicking your link. Or may be I’m wrong?

I’m definitely not doing it right (like other monsters here), but something interesting is happening this month.

February 2012 / 658 Clickthroughs / 6 Registered Members / 4 Deposits

I have a blog where I promote TF items. I usually get the above registered in a whole month, with around 1800 clicks.

But this month, I switched my blog to CloudFlare (on 9th Feb) and the traffic quality improved – apparently. So either:

  • this is a better month
  • CloudFlare actually improved the quality of my clicks

Obviously, something that stops spammers in their tracks won’t boost your referrals – but it’s such a big coincidence :D

Anyway, as a tip. I’d say you need:

  • a) a LOT of traffic
  • or b) quality traffic that is built over time with stuff that’s useful to people

well, as new author I’m studying strategies to gain from referrals.

In 2 weeks I have accumulated more than 2100 clickthroughs, but only today a user has deposited something :D

I don’t believe it matters if they have visited (or maybe it does). What matters is whether you register after coming from your link. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

If anyone really wants good tips on how to do it, ask WP Explorer. That man has so many referrals it’s disgusting :D

From here: http://themeforest.net/wiki/referral/referral-program/

If you have visited one of the Envato Marketplaces before and then click a referral link, it doesn’t count
