Who would have thought the best line would be made in this thread
Someone with little clue called me this weekend to ask if I could teach her how to explain the workings of a game she has to present next month.
When I inquired about the .fla she has and ActionScript version the game uses, she asked
“What’s ActionScript?”
She asked me for a quote (turns out she’ll want me to make the game too), i’ll be calculating the price of developing a game from scratch
CodingJack saidYou got lucky; after 15 years in the business i still try to explain my mom (she is a craftsman/sculpture) what i am doing for a living, after endless hours showing explain here what i am doing for a living, when someone ask her what your son is doing she say something with computers don’t ask me what… i still think she is a afraid from the mouse..Maybe that`s why she is so relax next to a tablet
(Me thinking to myself) “Sigh… if only there was an easier way to explain what an ‘Envato Author’ does.”

If you don’t like working with someone, that is fine. You simply and professionally tell them you can’t do the project and you move on.
This is not only about clients… Neighbors as well…
And… BELIEVE ME … You can’t say NO to neighbors!
They’ll haunt and hunt you like a blood-sucking undead creatures…

haha, that’s a tough task. If we say NO using less words, it will hurt them and if we have to convey using many words, they can’t understand
3 years back, I spent around 2 solid months for my brother’s friend to do a website just because I am unable make them understand why it was huge loss for me or diversion from my usual workflow.

what’s the password of the rar file ?
Yes it can, but the marketplace rule is “authors have to send their items as a ZIP file not RAR ” :)))))))) also imagine a rar file with password got approved by reviewers….:))))) its funny in everyway.

I think some of it has to do with tv commercials that say “Sign up with us and get a great looking website for $19.99”. What they don’t say in those commercials is the monthly “maintenance” and “advertising” fees they plan on charging you for as well. Things like that are what gives our neighbors the confidence to ask us to work for free

Yes, but fortunately, most of my friends have at least some IT experience/knowledge so they don’t demand much…

I think this entire thread is a great example of how not to treat clients. The mods should lock this thread and close it.
Huh? Why? It’s funny and nobody said developers were born that way. We all made mistakes like this (God knows I have, I used to ask some very dumb questions) and we are able to laugh about these. Is this so bad?
