Does this mean what I think it means? Is this new?

This is potentially very big news for Videohive because it breaks down one of the barriers to being able to use After Effects project templates.
Now, not only can users download the free 30 day trial version, but it looks like they can continue to use After Effects for a cost of $49 per month. That takes away the burden of a big investment from the occasional user, undermines piracy and is all-round a very smart move by Adobe (if it is indeed what it looks like!).
Subscription software is the future, I’m convinced.
Excellent idea, I wonder if plugins will follow suit as some are just as much as AE…
This is excellent, but Felt if I may look even further, I think that online software will be final frontier somewhere in time far far away.

Some already do. Camera Tracker from the Foundry can be hired daily for $1.79 IIRC .

I think you may be right, but I think that the old internet’s not quite up to it just yet.
If this really happens we should make a big note on the videohive page, that Buyers who don’t have After Effects could buy it on the adobe website for one moth or so. I think this would really increase the sales

I hope Adobe offers a referral code
Seriously great news, there’s been plenty of times when people are interested in Videohive templates but don’t really know what software they need or how all this works. Now we can point them in the right direction and they can try things out for a reasonable price.

Here’s another thought (just to play devils advocate!) but if people with no prior knowledge rent After Effects so they can purchase templates for say a one off job or whatever, can you imagine the amount of AE beginner questions will be flooding your inbox? Especially for all you high volume sales folks, grab onto something people!

I was actually considering that same scenario. It’s a scary thought! Looks like detailed project tutorial videos will become even more important to keep the newbie questions to a minimum.
