I’m resurrecting this thread just to give some brief generic feedback on the KH120s. I actually got them in December (Section 179 in mind), but wanted to use them for a while before commenting on them.

What can I say – I’m extraordinarily happy with them so far. It was literally like pulling a huge wad of cotton out of my ears when I started working with them. I can’t find anything hyped about them, whereas with the MR5s I had been working with bass and low mids were an issue and always required some guesswork. There is a lot more clarity or separation of the instruments as well, so it’s easier to hear where they’re fitting in the mix and how everything is affected when you apply an effect or whatever.

I was worried at first that they might sound too good and lead me astray, but I’m much happier with recent mixes and they’ve taken much less time to accomplish.

Unfortunately I can’t compare them with the A7s, which I only heard once, or the KRK VXTs, which I heard in a music store with a loud amateur guitarist whaling away in the background :). I’m sure both of those are amazing speakers as well. But I can certainly vouch for the Neumanns, and I’m wishing I bought them years ago (even though they weren’t around at the time :)).

I hate to admit it, but not yet :( They are, however, in my shopping cart for the next purchase once I finish off paying for yet another piece of December gear.

I do have them isolated on a couple of pieces of Auralex foam in the meantime, but I realize that’s not optimal and the mopads sure look a lot cooler :).
