Skype Question

Never used, and I dont intend to.

I have no idea how it works, but I need a little help.

We are adding social links to our site profile pages.

Wanted to add skype link, to link to the users skype name >? is that dooable..

example: if it was youtube.com and user is called BOB then the link would append to:

youtube.com/BOB

But what do we need do for Skype ?

Is it possible, I have searched the internet with no real joy.

Simple question, hopefully a simple answer.

I do not use Skype very much but for users that have Skype installed it looks like it sets up a hook in your “mime” types for anything that begins with SKYPE :

Example:

skype:tutelagesystems

This should go to my profile and to make a call you can use the ?call parameters

skype:tutelagesystems?call

This is what I have read, so not 100% sure on it

Yeah I had read that in many places online.

However it doesnt link to a user. I presume because it only works if you have Skype installed.

Essentially, I want to add a SKYPE link in users profile, that on click launches that users skype page or profile.. I aint even sure if skype users have profile pages that are publically accesible.

I am 99% positive that Skype does not have public profiles outside of their application you need to install.

Here are all the links I found, and yes the users will need to have Skype installed.

Thats brilliant, its weird though how they dont have public user profiles for users. I am sure I have seen peoples links on websites which appear to link to a profile, must have been just links similar to what you have posted. Many thanks, appreciate your help.
