So i just found something cool out….
If you have layer styles applied to a layer, you can click them, hold down the click, and drag them to another layer.
You can do this with individual layer styles (i.e just the drop shadow or gradient overlay) or you can drag the whole lot.
I recorded a little screen capture to show you/explain better, which you can see here: http://cl.ly/DSAm
Just shows how there’s always new stuff to find out! hehe

...and you can also alt-click (on a pc) on a layer mask, and drag it on to another layer.

You can also “copy” the styles in the exact same way by holding alt while doing the same actions btw. Not sure if you knew that but didn’t see it mentioned.
You can drag them to the trash to delete unwanted styles.
You can do all this for smart filters too. But for smart filters you also have the ability to reorder them on the list by simply dragging and can also duplicate them on the same object by holding alt. Reordering on the list changes the order in which the effects are applied of course.

Thanks a lot to everyone for all the tips- most of which were new to a newbie like me.
What i often want to do and can’t find out how, is to see the pixel measurement of something i am selecting with the marquee tool. I want to click and drag and see the measurement increasing as i am dragging so i can stop on a specific pixel area; similar to how you can see the percentage of transformation as you are dragging the handle. Am i just doh??

You can do exactly this with the info panel. Windows > Info if it’s not already open.
Set your rulers to pixel or whatever measurement you want, or you can do it in the info panel options by left clicking the top right area of the info panel to open the options and set it there.

NP! Sorry to step on your toes. And I’ve never looked at that measurement log window, damn that thing looks scary.

haha you weren’t stepping on my toes! The idea of this thread is to get as many tips/tricks as possible
I didn’t realise it was in the info panel, just shows how flexible + how many options Photoshop has!
