Following is one of my items that recently got rejected:
Do you think these text layer styles doesn’t qualify for GR? I need some logical explanation from fellow experienced GR members.
Quality is premium, do not doubt on that. But these stlyes are very similar to few on marketplace which are very popular.
I can guess which items are being considered as similar. But then again I have a few questions. All those popular items and mine too are made of one single component that is chrome. Chrome can have only a typical look. So, if you create a chorme layer style, no matter how hard you try, they would barely look different from one another. Even my own styles, perhaps many would say, have little difference from one another. But I am helpless if I have picked chrome as a material. Because I am not God, and I can not change the look of chorme.
The best thing I could do is to change the lighting direction, bevel and shadow effects etc. And that’s what I did. But that would hardly make a huge difference right? After all chrome will be chrome, gold will be gold, silver will be silver. Same applies on glass either. Although I tried my best to make them different. But I don’t understand how am I supposed to make a chrome material look largely different from another? Or should I forget uploading chrome and glass styles in Graphic River?
Besides the high quality popular items, I could also see hundreds of lesser quality chrome and glass styles which were accepted by the review team. Then why not one more when it is premium quality? What harm a premium quality file could do to GR? In fact it would add some more variety and the buyers would be interested to buy it!
This in fact is a very common question/complaint on the Envato marketplace, as some say that only allowing those that first create a style to have that type of file, is monopolising that part of the market.
The main problem with something like this (i.e. the marketplace) is that it is new and therefore they need to see how it advances and make changes accordingly, an issue like this may force the marketplace to change, as it is mentioned so many times on different occasions.
With regards to your item, it does look very nice, and it’s a shame that it’s not been accepted on the marketplace.
Thanks a lot. At least your comments boosted up my confidence. Otherwise I was getting demoralized. It’s not that I can not face rejections. Already a few couple of items have got rejected by GR before this. I never raised a question because I felt they had some valid reason behind every rejection. But being a designer, I too have a little bit of sense of what is going to be rejected and what’s not. This time I got shaken by this decision and started losing confidence in judging the quality of my own works!
Can you suggest me now about what should I do now with this item? Because I just can’t select it and press SHIFT +DELETE. At least this one doesn’t deserve this treatment.

Agree with Thomas. Your item looks quite good to me. It’s all about our timing. (Damn! We came pretty late here. :D)
Well there’s no such marketplace elsewhere so probably you can either release it on deviantart (might help some people and can give you exposure over there) or may be release it on some design blog. (I’m sure you know of them, they’re everywhere).
Thanks Raincutter. The most surprising thing is that they already accepted so called “similar” chrome styles even on 30th March and 18th June. I am mentioning these two dates just to show that just within a month they suddenly found that my item, no matter how good in quality, will create a crowd in that category. And it was otherwise alright for them to accept hundreds of mediocre chrome styles till June, many of which are not even 10% in terms of quality as compared with the existing premium quality items by other experienced designers! And this took 4 days to hold my item till they finally could decipher how harmful my item is going to be for GR and therefore rejected it immediately.
Should I contact support regarding this problem? Any suggestion?
I can truly understand your frustration at this eventuality, I’m sure that I would be extremely annoyed, and I know that the others in that situation were extremely frustrated.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure what I can suggest as a course of action that could help your predicament. I think that contacting support would be a beneficial avenue to take until we are able to discover why they feel that the prior made items have the right to monopolise.
But as I’ve said, Envato is a unique concept, and for the most part works extremely well, and I think that they will need to iron out some flaws for the good of the marketplaces.
If you are unable to get it onto the Envato marketplace, then I would strongly suggest that you follow Raincutter’s advice, and try to get noticed on sites like DeviantArt, or a design blog, as that has the potential to get your already existing items coverage and sales.
I hope this helped, if you want any more advice feel free to e-mail me!
P.S: Your portfolio is really good, you’re a very talented designer.
I am so happy to let everyone know that this item is finally accepted and available for sale now. Thanks to GR team.
Glad it got accepted, saw it, and looks nice
