Hello,
I have been uploading vectors to GraphicRiver lately and decided I would also work on a couple PSD templates for ThemeForest. My normal work is logo design through my own company and with each client contract, I always reserve the right to “use the logos I create in my own marketing materials as I see fit”.
So, from my end I know it’s okay.. but I’m wondering if ThemeForest has a rule against using your own work in the “Portfolio” sections of your PSD or website templates? I’m wanting to use the logos I have created in the “Client List” section of the PSD template I’m working on and plan to upload.
BTW , I know this might be kind of a stupid question. I would assume it’s completely fine to use my own work. I just wanted to find out before I go through the process of uploading it just to have it rejected for this reason…
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
As long as you own the rights on them I don’t see a problem with it, but if in doubt contact support
If some of your resources (ie. buttons), are on GraphicRiver, then I don’t think you can “give/include” it with your ThemeForest file; unless you are not an exclusive author.
Check me on that though…
Nope. None of that work is in the template. I just wanted to use some of the logos found on my nineteeneightyone website in the portfolio section of my new ThemeForest PSD template (just for the preview images too).

If it’s just for the preview images you’re fine, given that you have the right to “use the logos I create in my own marketing materials as I see fit”. Naturally, you wouldn’t want to distribute those in the downloadable file, like you said.
Awesome! Thanks. I just wanted to make sure before uploading.

I don’t think there is any problem with including a product you sell on an Envato marketplace as part of another product you sell, also on an Envato marketplace.
For example, in my WordPress themes I include the complete HTML version of the theme as well. I sell the HTML version on ThemeForest but by purchasing the WordPress version you get both.
That’s no different than including the PSD files for buttons you sell on GraphicRiver in a template you sell on ThemeForest. In the end you own the copyright to these files and while you can’t sell them on any other marketplaces to remain an exclusive author, my understanding is that as long as the distribution remains on an Envato marketplace you are fine. Even if that distribution is in the form of a free give-a-way in another marketplace product.
I could be wrong but that is my interpretation.
