Hello guys,

I have a question: if a music of mine is used for a flash game that is sponsored, so the developer get money for it, what’s the right license he should purchase? The regular one or the Extended one? I’m almost sure he should buy the Extended one because he is selling a product, but I want to know your opinion, too.

All the best,

ST

Thanks for your answer.

I’m not sure a flashgame is a paid game. It is not paid by users that play the game, they are free to play. The developer only takes money by sponsors to include their logo somewhere in the game. This is confusing me.

Best to purchase the Extended licence if money is to be made from the end result. Good luck!

Ok, Thank you!

It would be great if it was specified in the details of licenses, because, I’m pretty sure, free-to-play games developers think that regular license is the right license to buy. Maybe adding “Sponsored videogames, even if they are free-to-play” would solve the problem.

What do you think about this?

The answer to this question has been “regular license” in the past, because users do not pay for the game. A staff member should answer it and I agree it needs to be added to the license details.

Many have mentioned, though I still think buying Exteded License would be the best choice. I mean he will make money off the game, even if users don’t pay for it.

I agree with you.

Point E of extended license:

“You may use the Work in a work which you are creating for your own purposes or for your client who has asked you to create it.”.

For a sponsored free2play game, the client who pays for the game is the sponsor. The users that play the game, are client of the sponsor. If we understand this, the Extended License is obviously the right license to buy. A free2play game is a commercial game.
