From what I’ve read some think that AS2 is better suited for this marketplace than AS3 . And this is the reason why they have chosen to stick with AS2 . But when you look at sales this doesn’t ring true.
We’ve had many people tell us how easy it was to work with our files, many of whom were repeat buyers (and not a single one told us they wished the file was in AS2 ).
We put a lot of thought into what options should be available and which ones we could live without. “XML option overkill” is bad, and it makes more sense to satisfy the 95 people with just the right options than the remaining 5 who will always need x, y and z no matter how hard you try. (avoiding help file overkill is also important).
Sales aren’t about AS2 vs. AS3 , or timeline code vs. OOP . They’re about features, design, and how easy it is to work with your file, with a big fat period at the end of that sentence.
So I understand why authors are disappointed that AS2 won’t get promoted. But I also don’t see a reason why the same authors can’t build with AS3 and have the same success. It’s better for customers to have the option to load any component into their template (as opposed to only AS2 ), and like I mentioned before, it’s in our best interest as Flash developers to push AS3 forward now more than ever.
Thanks Crackers. That was an inspirational message. I think I’m finally going to code in AS3 from now on until I can move on even more.

I felt the same but after looking at few recent featured files and considering the Kontramax’s portfolio, I couldn’t stop wondering what is actually going on here. That much of strict rules can never help what actually intended. Some tolerance needed at least for the sake of buyers to reach good things already existing here. (AS3) Promotions no longer looks like promotion but rules.
VF, there’s only one logic behind it and that’s how they are trying to promote an up-to-date form of scripting.
There is a point that AS2 files can still be top notch, but it gets held back because of the fact that the marketplace is trying to push AS3 . Its for the sake of evolution and business.
I’m saying there comes a time when the older products need to make way for newer ones until the older products become antiques. Your arguments about AS2 still being popular are irrelevant only because of the fact that ActiveDen is pushing the more evolved technology. AS2 has had its time being promoted along with AS3 . After 4 years of AS3 having been created, in time AS2 will be put to rest. I’m saying in time. So don’t get your pants in a twist.
Those buyers didn’t buy 900+ files from Kontramax just because they were AS2 . They were buying those files because they were in high demand for the holidays. And being that they were very attractive files is what helped them to sell. Now, while AD only wants to promote AS3 files, it makes sense because its a newer technology and is also the current one. Even adobe doesn’t promote anything but their latest products on the Adobe sites, regardless of whether or not their older products are still in demand.
But whatever.

I expected just a little tolerance if time comes to encourage some extraordinary designers. That’s all. They also making Flash to live/grow in our market. Isn’t it?
We’ve had many people tell us how easy it was to work with our files, many of whom were repeat buyers (and not a single one told us they wished the file was in AS2 ).
The flip side to that I’ve never had a request to convert one of my AS2 files to AS3 .
I have nothing against AS3 , I’m starting to develop more files in AS3 myself and will eventually produce all my files in AS3 .
But like you said a great file is great file, they all should be promoted imo.

If you can think like that, you might as well still be coding in AS1 . Sure exceptional design is nice and all, but the more advanced technology is what helps to progress growth and expansion.

Those exaggerations keeps these threads going. There is a difference between promoting and ignoring. Time for me to escape permanently from this topic. No use.
