IMO , good support should come with a theme. If someone paid you $30 for your item, and they ask you a question, it’s only right to answer them asap. Paying an extra $1 for a quick reply just doesn’t seem right.

No, someone does not have to do it. We try to mention it as little as possible, to make as little people aware of it as possible.

Support is never someone’s right or someone’s obligation. In my opinion, $30 is extremely cheap for a site template: that’s the power of stock files. The only way authors can maintain these prices is by selling their items very often. If all of those buyers would demand support since it would be “their right”, the marketplace would collapse.

Our idea for payed support:

Lets say that you have file which costs 15usd.

Now, if a buyer buys it for $15, the support would be as it is now – depending on your time, will etc.

Lets say that he would have the option to buy the file for lets say $18, and get the fast and priority support for those additional 3 dollars.

What do you think?

The biggest issues that resides with any of these types of suggestions is that buyers already struggle to distinguish between what constitutes as ‘support’ and what is ‘customisation’. Adding a price tag to this will just further add to the confusion.

It also places an even greater emphasis on support, which is not the main focus of the networks, this is just something that has evolved over time. Support is not nor will ever be mandatory for its authors and even though the option to ‘opt out’ of this could be made available this would not stop buyers still expecting it from you anyway.

All you would be doing is setting yourselfs up for hastle and giving buyers an excuse to complain. In an attempt to make things more simple I suspect it would have the opposite affect. :)

this will encourage authors to put more complex scripts and library item instead of making it simple. So that buyer will ask more and more Qs

And this will have reverse effect on new buyers they will say “ActiveDen is a Den of hyper GEEK authors they uses soooooo complex scripts that, that scripts even goes over the head of giraffe” :D

+1. The system as it is now is great. Support is not mandatory, and as an author you can simply decide not to give support if that is what you wish to do, although it is not recommended – this will obviously not get you a great name. Buyable support would make this system of optional support undoable.

Paid support? -1.
