Paying for Freelance work with PayPal

Hi there,

I offer payment for any freelance work by PayPal but my only/main problem with this is the fees. Do you ask the sender to cover fees or do you take them on yourself. Do you charge extra for PayPal payments or incorporate them into the price. I just want you opinions as when I look at the total fees I have paid, it is quite annoying!

Incorporate them. Makes things simpler on the client side.

It only happened once, out of maybe 400+ clients so far. So that won’t happen too often I guess.

Well I don’t have as much clients as you but I only had to pay the fee twice, one of which I refunded and they resent it as gift. =)

The problem with the gift (that’s, no commission at all from paypal) is that payer loose the oportunity to ask for a refund if something go wrong. So, normally, it’s hard to convince a new client to go that way. But if you have already worked with a client, and they trust in you, i think there is no problem in suggest the gift as a payment concept.

Otherwise, Paypal comissions are just exorbitant.

Well if you have 2 payments (one milestone, one on delivery) you can have the first the smaller one with fee, and the second one when the client already seen the end product but doesn’t have it yet, you can ask them for the “gift” option. They already see what they get, etc.

Do not send gifts too much. You will have a nice paypal account lock installed.

Incorporate them. For 2000$ the fee is something like 38$ ? I don`t think your customer will mind paying an extra 38$ and then he can send them as personal payment, payment owed.

wouldn’t surprise me, i’ve had my account blocked so many times for “money laundering”
