Hi, i think that would be very important to make the rating for purchased items obligatory in any way. What you think about? Cheers 8)

yes, maybe introducing a personal user feedback i think, using positive and negative value scale, directly influenced by the user conduct, that of course includes the voting action.

How exactly would this be enforced?

Well, considering that the rating is determinant in most cases for an item to be sold, i think that the procedure could work in this way. 1. the user buy and download the item. 2. envato send an email to the user with a direct link to the voting page for the specific item, remembering to rate it within 15 days. 3. the user use the item and evaluate the quality of it. 4. then the user can express his vote via the linked email from envato. 5. if the user does not perform the voting, then he will be penalised by envato. How the user could be penalised? A. halving its royalties rate for its next 10 sales (or more?) B. resetting all the votes obtained for its products. C. fining the user. D. all of the above. (for very negligent users). For now i have no other ideas, any others are welcome. Cheers.

Why would a potential buyer participate in a marketplace that will penalize and fine its buyers? Would kind of make them not buy anything in the first place. I prefer sales and no ratings, than no sales at all.

NO PENALTIES !! What the hell ?! We want our buyers to feel at premium in every marketplace.

Yet, i do think the rating system should be improved (but hey, we’ve been nagging for an improve for years.. Nothing has changed much).

Maybe envato should send a followup email to buyers 24 hours after the purchase, kindly asking to rate the purchased item… AND there should be some way to filter out TROLL ratings, when other vile authors try to sabotage your image by buying your cheapest file and rating it 1 star.

My 2 cents in !

Cheers !

No, it can penalise only Authors/Buyers. The Buyer only will be notified with an email (periodically), like 3alisha says above. I think is good cooperation to rate other users works. Obviously, the system could be improved even for the average rating. I.e. if an item is rated overall higly by most users and, a single user rate it excessive lower than the majority of users done before, then the user who have rated too low must complete a questionnaire, to explain his too much different than others, vote.

Come to think of it, envato supposedly has strict guidelines and must meet high standards before items get approved. If this is so, shouldnt every item deserve pretty high ratings anyways? If not then, what implications does that have on the review process and on the reviewers?
