Hi all i was looking to purchase a few themes from theme forest here to use on client websites etc but what i want to know is this. Can i have a foot note saying website designed by my name once ive change the pics and content so the client doesnt know it was a borrowed template ? Im askign before hand becuase i know some template sites do and some dont allow it

It would be better to say ‘Site By:’ instead of ‘Site designed by:’. Just let your clients know that you’re using templates and don’t ever lead them to believe that you’re designing the sites yourself.

yh true but i wouldnt of thought it ws the best way ot market myself to say hey we use templates most of the works done for us why should a client pay for that ? I do make some websites from scratch with artisteer and other programmes i dont know code u see. what if i put developed by ?

Funny, I thought that was the best way to market myself even giving clients links to theme demos I shortlist to fully see working sites in action. I’ve yet to see a client install Wordpress, activate a theme and configure it himself, many can’t even make simple edits via the dashboard even after I show them how and I’m never out of work.

You are right, most of the work was done for us and that I don’t charge clients for that. What I do charge clients for is for is my insights on how to make that template work: adding the right content, laying it out that’s interesting to the visitor, graphic design for sliders and illustrative icons/images, content writing, SEO , marketing and overall site development. If all you’re doing is switching images and replacing text then you’re doing no actual work and cannot justify the attribution.

If you make websites from scratch then you absolutely have the right to put ‘designed by you’. Again, always let your clients know you use templates. If you think that will scare them away let them know the cost of a uniquely designed website which is far more.

yh i unerstand what your saying i mean to be replacing text images sort layout make it presentable for customers and also seo etc add extra plugins as needed etc. Dont get me wrong im no coder ! but with a few programmes ive got ive managed to do some ok sites from scratch but yh i supposed ur right , I’ll heed ur advice and probably jsut put developed by my name instead. As to attribute the fact ive possible developed the original tempt to suit the clients needs etc . anyway thanks for a speedy reply and the advice Mate its appreciated
