It’s nice that there is a menu selection for popular items in separate categories, but popular files for the last 3 months is burried deep under the community tab…
...& no I think there is no change in the search engine from what I can tell…

I’m not sorry to see popular items featured less strongly. I think that sales success has been too self reinforcing in the past, squeezing out opportunity for other worthy files.
But without this shorthand for buyers to find quality files, there has to be a commensurate improvement in the searching system, otherwise from a buyer’s point of view, finding the right file becomes like wading through treacle.
The other danger of course is that they resort to sorting files by sales, reducing the files they’ll find to an even smaller subset of the total available.

I like it. Each section has “popular items” – awesome! I am not really sure what the point of “latst 3 months” is anyway. One thing – till now to go to the hive-s forum it was enough to click “Forum” while in the videohive marketplace.. now it requires an extra click to do so – the first click gets you to the “All topics” tab. Maybe it is a way of making us care what going on around the marketplaces and not just our own. To sum up – thumbs up for the new look.

I’m kind of on the fence about the floating tab on the left too. Not sure it’s exactly very useful.
Overall I’m mostly liking the redesign so far. Change is usually a good thing and the interface hasn’t been redesigned for quite awhile.
According to the master post on the redesign subject (http://videohive.net/forums/thread/announcement-marketplace-usability-design-changes/43732), there’s a lot more to come:
Here’s what we’re working on now or have planned!
- Further tweaks to the category drop downs.
- Better placement of the – Item Details | FAQs | Comments links on the item pages.
- Cleaning up all buttons and labels on the Marketplace to be consistent with one another.
- Substantial changes to the homepage. We’ll keep you guys in the loop about this!
- Improved full screen previews.
- Streamlined sign-up process.
- and much, much more!
