Hi,

My first submission to themeforest has been rejected with the reason “This File Did Not Meet Our Criteria”. The response was nothing more than a template message telling me to make sure it validates properly, coding is current with today’s standards, template documentation uses our template or one of higher design quality, you’ve obtained licensing for all template sources for copyright.

I thought that my template was good enough to be approved. Source was clean and fully commentted. Can you guys please advice me how to improve it so it doesn’t rejected again?

Thanks

I love the navigation and the over all clean look. However it seems as though it is lacking more details. not much just the subtle details like maybe borders add some rounded corners and such. Specially for the portfolio page… the category on the right could be on top like a secondary nav bar

Hope that helps. :)

I don’t know. It looks good to me. The only thing I can think of is that it just isn’t visually pleasing. It’s really kind of plane. Which is fine. it seems to work for that design.

Maybe if you added some kind of header. Something with color that grabs the eye to draw you in

I also noticed that your slider doesn’t have any pause effect. So if someone is reading the article, it’s going to slide on them. I couldn’t get it to hold still.

If you respond to the rejection letter and ask nicely, the reviewer may give your more pointers to getting it to pass

Looks damn good to me! Great work. Hopefully you can correct the issues and get it up for sale soon. Good luck!

I would say the homepage lacks a little structure. Try adding a thin separation between the nav and the homepage slideshow, or maybe giving the header a light grey background.

Also you can probably improve the typography with cufon or @font-face. You can look here for some inspiration:

One thing that really works though is the spacing. Most of the rejected themes always feel cramped and busy, but yours has lots of breathing room, I like that.

I think that the problem with this template is that it is too simple.

If I were you, I would take a look at top selling themes and try to add more stuff to it.
