Just curious why user tend to use photoshop over illustrator for the tempates
Illustrator is more traditionally for print design (like print ads, magazine spreads, etc.) and photoshop is generally used for web design (which is pixel-based obviously).
Agreed, and btw congrats themeblvd on your gold paw ;)

Ha thanks, Wizy. It’s quite shiny.

I dont think anyone should have to use illustrator..

I use to always design interfaces in photoshop but then I started having to make a bunch of interactive TV interfaces and a lot of them are at 640×480 or other small resolutions and on my high deff monitor when I zoom in to get a larger look its always pixelated so I started making them in illustrator because I can scale them up and down in PDF and such and they look good.

I was just curious what I should use for my next web design. I like the slicing options in photoshop and all the available add ons and styles are much more abundant.

@ ArnoldCK — I use Fireworks and include the PNG files. I also check “includes PSD ” which I interpret as “includes design files”. It’s an oversight that all designers use Photoshop. It’s not true and it doesn’t make a difference.

If I’m not mistaken, when we submit an item there is an option “includes layered PNG ”, which I think it’s Fireworks design thing

If it’s just about the slicing, you can always design in Illustrator, then save it as a smart object in your psd file. That works, and I’ve sereval times created interfaces by that way. In fact I use Illustrator more than Photoshop.

@GravityDept – WTF A FireWorks buddy ! I thought I was alone. I’ve been trying to learn Photoshop the whole day and frankly I’m quite frustrated.

Thanks to your insight I’m starting to think I dont have to overwork my brain learning PhotoShop after all. I just discovered that you can export your FireWorks PNG to PSD or as you suggested just distribute it as it is.

This means I can still use my favourite software and not be disadvantaged at all.

Thanks buddy :)

SideNote :

BTW FireWorks is an Adobe product developed specifically for web design. It has similar graphics capabilities as PhotoShop

errrrm disagree with the photoshop bit im afraid, photoshop was and is aimed at photographers, the clue is in the name, theres a bit of a debate wether or not ps takes over the role of fireworks which is the default choice for web design, thats in adobe’s hands.but as personal preference for designers,id say 90% are ps users, its easier to learn and supports most file formats natively.
