Today I have been having a play around with iUi which is quit a fun framework which allows you to create websites which resemble the iPhone interface. They are viewable on your PC, but, as you would expect, they look better on iPhones and iPod touches.
So anyway, i have created a temporary iPhone page for my website using this framework (which, i will repeat, is very fun to use).
If you visit my website ( http://www.reaper-media.com ), most of you will find it is just a flash construction message. However, if you are on an iPhone / iPod Touch, you will be taken to: http://www.reaper-media.com/subdomains/iphone , which is my special iphone version.
So, what do you guys think of developing a whole new version of a website specially for the iPhone / iPod Touch. Is it a waste of time, or isn’t it. Should we, or shouldn’t we all create iPhone versions of our websites.
BTW : I haven’t yet had time to create my own skin for my iPhone website, but might do in due course, if i feel it’s necessary.

Maybe it’s a good idea for other types of sites… but this, with flash content, it’s pretty useless for mobiles… Also, it works pretty good in the current state.

I love it! It looks absolutely amazing, and fits right in with the general style of the iPhone. I do agree that it might be handy for some people to create iPhone-versions of their website, but certainly not for everyone. At the time I’m writing this, people use computers to browse to websites rather than smartphones – only a very, very small percentage of the internet browsing is done by smartphones. (I can imagine this changing in the future
).
That said, there are also some positive considerations. It might be an idea for sites that are based fully on flash (and thus practically unviewable on the iPhone) to create a page like you did, and simply state that there is too much flash on the site for it to display properly on the iPhone. Big sites like FlashDen could elaborate on this page by adding simple features to it, but I suppose the regular every-day website should simply have one or two pages with links like the ones you’ve added (Twitter, RSS ).
All of that said, I think your page looks awesome and fits the needs of iPhone-users perfectly! Again, I love it!

Also, it works pretty good in the current state.
That is indeed a whole different topic:
The Safari browser on the iPod/iPhone is (excuse my enthousiasm) THE BEST smartphone browser I’ve ever seen. It makes browsing extremely easy and confortable, so I suppose it could be a question if there is even a need for a iPhone-specific way of displaying sites.
Again, I’d like to stress the fact that it surely is a must have for Flash-based websites.
Sorry for the double-post, but I didn’t see wickedpixel’s post yet before I submitted my first post. After I saw it, I felt like I had to quote.
IF your looking for a whole package its great!
I have a client whom im building him a website. He know is asking for a mobile version! He is concerned that mobile web browsers won’t have a good experience browsing his website on their iphones!
The web is growing and customers are looking to cover all platforms.. Most of them are worried that there new website wont work well on iphones and other mobiles… Before they were concerned about the SEO and deepling.. This is solved now we have a new problem… mobile web!
The web is growing so fast…

EDIT 1982 posts. The year in which I was born. Which is weird that I’d know that, because I always tell myself I was born yesterday.

That’s quite impressive.. I only know like 7-10 people who own one, and they’re said to be relatively populair here in the Netherlands, as well
