Illustrator problem

Can anyone tell me what i have overlooked. I am relatively new to Illustrator and made some new brushes by scanning some black and white line artwork; the problem is that when i test them in Illustrator they are only in ‘available’ in greyscale! I have looked for tutorials but none of them refer to this quirk. Thanks, i know there must be a very simple answer.

I think (quite sure actually) brushes both in PHOTOSHOP and ILLUSTRATOR only work in grayscale. The colors are then applied on the art-board or canvas depending on what the foreground or background colors are.

Thanks Sherman, but what i mean is that when i try and apply a stroke color it won’t do it like the other brushes, it just gives me a grey scale equivalent. Could it be something i have to change in the document file when i made the brushes?

OK, it took a while but i found it… when you double click on a brush there is an option on the menu to set the brush to obey hues or tints or shades. Maybe this will help other learners.
