jwmcpeak, You are right in almost 90% to the context but a close up look needed to maintain logic. I don’t know exactly how the download page will look if some of the purchased items deleted from marketplaces. So correct me if I am wrong:
- You are repeatedly purchasing different items from different authors (for example 20-30 items).
- In 6 months or so, one day the number of items in the download page seems to be shorter than before.
Now you clearly know some items are gone but not sure exactly what is gone and don’t know why. How painful it would be to live with confusion of whether you own illegitimate license or not and contact support just to make sure. As I said, I don’t know if there are any info added on download page but looking at this particular buyer’s comment I don’t think there is any info available on download page.
The original post here says buyer knows what item removed, so no problem there. But it definitely raises my above question.
Instead of making them contact support, isn’t there anyway to convey the reason on download page? like this:
- No longer available for download (but your purchased license is ligit)
- No longer available for download (due to copyright infringement)
- Community Superstar
- Italy
- Sold between 10 000 and 50 000 dollars
- Has been a member for 3-4 years
- Microlancer Beta Tester
- Beta Tester
- Repeatedly Helped protect Envato Marketplaces against copyright violations
- Exclusive Author
- Author had a Free File of the Month
in my downloads area one item is not available anymore, it looks like this

I think it should be more clear, the default message is of no use to me. It should be one of the following.
A The item has been removed by the author. (and this is sufficient no need for further explanations)
B The item has been removed by the staff (then I want to know why, especially if is a copyright infringement so I can take steps to protect me and the eventual client I bought that item for.)
while I’m here, I want to point out that the download area should have some sort of button to remove/hide the items that are no longer available. If I can’t download it anymore why should I see that item in my download area for eternity?
I think that message is also misleading since it advice me to contact support. Did support will clarify what was the real reason why the item is not available anymore? And if they can tell me this information why not do this automatically?

^ Thanks, so there is no issue about knowing what item removed. The only issue is contacting support each time an item removed.
Edit: For any buyer who purchases 1000s of items, I guess they need different Fun facts on dashboard:
- Today no items deleted.
- 20 deleted, go find what was deleted.

The Envato marketplaces are exactly like any other marketplace; they facilitate the means for sellers to sell their goods and for buyers to buy them.Do you walk into a physical store, purchase an item, leave the store, and expect that store to give you call when the item you purchased is no longer available? Do you expect the store to call you to tell you the manufacturer of the item you purchased is no longer in business? What about Amazon? Do you expect Amazon to do the same thing?
If your answers to the above questions are “no” (and I assume they are), why do you expect different behavior from Envato? There is nothing different, in this respect, between Envato and other retailers—both physical and virtual.
Hello.
When you sell something that you didn´t made yourself do you say to the buyer : Please buy this item, i dont know if it works but if you have a problem you’ll have to talk to the person who made it ?
The bottom line is there’s no warranty of any kind on this market. I don´t want to waste my time buying items that i have to returm to the store because they’re broken.Time is money.
I want to buy with warranty. Not buying a plugin that is already broken and that continues to sell and no one knows nothing about it…just when the items dissapear from the market whihtout explanation, the bells start to ring….and we…the buyers…have to start wasting our time with the process of discovering what is happening….Now i understand why App Store charged me 90 euros to enter the developper program….and now is the time to search for other markets.

^ I don’t think these marketplaces are that much unsafe. When I was a buyer 4 years back, I not even aware there are more than 1 author here but the trust happened just by looking at 1 quality author’s portfolio and item description / comments.
Still now that is the case and before purchase, many buyers go through authors portfolio and item comments and few other criteria to make sure the consistency. Although there is room for improvement in user interface here, the concept and limitations are same as any other marketplace, those are natural limitations.
Btw, I am not an advertiser here and I also hate the dead slow improvements on usability areas happening here.

I’m not going to comment on whether or not the item works. It obviously worked for the reviewer; otherwise, it wouldn’t have been accepted.
You do have a warranty: you contact support, just as you would with any other marketplace. Any store or marketplace has a set of policies in place that allow you to get a refund for an item that doesn’t work. That policy might or might not specify an age limit, but the policy exists.
Countless people have suggested that you contact support. That is your correct course of action, both here and for any other retailer that facilitates the sale of other people’s goods.
Case in point.
Google translation. My item worked great, but then google changed the translation policy.
Thats beyond my control, implicit in the fact at the time i made it, it worked. Now it doesnt.
.
Support is absolutely your best route to getting this problem fixed.
I would like to add this to authors though. As a developer, you should be scanning the environment and anticipating changes as best you can to try to avoid these types of situations. It may not work in every case, but is worth the effort to avoid selling a product that only works for a very short period of time. This of course would make the value of your item pretty low to a customer. You should try to head these types of situations off by being on top of industry changes. This is what the big companies do and is part of what gives their products such good value.
It’s just a suggestion, and one that may not be completely feasible in this type of market. But it is something to shoot for.
On top of that, If I sold an itm to a customer that only worked for a short period, one that is reasonably unfair to the customer, I would refund their money personally. That’s just me though.
Anyway, that’s just my two cents.
This is really obvious. Things we’ve purchased should NEVER be removed from our downloads page. IF they were having storage pace problems, it’s only fair to warn people before they are removed. But to remove ti just because the item is discontinued sounds like theft to me.
I’ve seen several people comparing it to other stores and marketplaces, fine. None of them would do anything like this. Would best buy go out to where you store your purchases and remove them because they were discontinued? Of course not. Of course not.
