hello,

i submitted a template and i got rejected because of typography and other things..

http://petermikhael.com/previews/PM00027/

but i need to got a clear solution for my typography problems.. i found this

http://webdesignledger.com/freebies/40-super-sleek-fonts-for-clean-web-design

is it Enough.. i found this equations:

Heading font size ÷ Body copy font size = 1.96

line height (pixels) ÷ body copy font size (pixels) = 1.48

line length (pixels) ÷ line height (pixels) = 27.8

space between paragraphs (pixels) ÷ line height (pixels) = 0.754

Common choices for headlines are Georgia, Arial and Helvetica.

Common choices for body copy are Georgia, Arial, Verdana and Lucida Grande.

The most popular font size for headings is a range between 18 and 29 pixels.

The most popular font size for body copy is a range between 12 and 14 pixels.

is it totally enough to pass the typography rejections in my templates..

thank you :)

I would guess this theme wasn’t rejected on the basis of the typography alone – what were the other reasons?

I think you’re already practically there with what you have, I wouldn’t change it too drastically but maybe steer away from brilliant white, it’s a little too bright.

Other than that, your typography looks okay to me, the only thing I would suggest is the footer needs to breath a little more and maybe the sub-headings that you are using font replacement for could be a little larger – other than that, it’s fine.

What was the reviewer feedback?

thank you jeff for your replay..

here’s the feecback

“I’m sorry, but your submission hasn’t been improved enough to meet our quality standards for premium templates. The template will need further improvements in overall design in aspects such as typography and graphics. The code also needs improvements to reduce the number of unnecessary divs and more semantic coding such as placing series of items in lists as appropriate. I apologize for the inconvenience.”

I think the reviewer has seen something in your markup where you’ve got a series of items that could be put into a list. Things like your Latest News are essentially items in a list, so the whole paragraph from the date, the dummy text and read more link could be put within a

  • tag.
  • As for graphics, you’ve started well with the header but aside from that there is nothing else on the template. Try includign some icons in your navigation or things like your Service List (some people chose to use a tick mark for example). Why not make the footer bigger and make a big deal about the social stuff e.g. use large social icons (theres loads of free ones online). You should try and make the footer stand out as a seperate element – much like you’ve done with the footer.

The contact form needs a bit of TLC with spacing issues.

Home – this page in particular is BEGGING for a full-width image underneath the navigation menu and the columns. A slider, or even some introductory text would fit nicely there – or on all the pages actually.

Search – if you can get a search box on the site that’d probably be a useful addition.

Lightbox – I actually like that you’ve done your own lightbox, but does it need to be so wide? Maybe it was just my monitor :P

Partners – this is exactly what I was talking about with graphics, if you had some more of these – maybe in the footer, then it’d really make your design more balanced.

Typography – I don’t have a problem with the font (Tahoma) but have a play around with the line-heights and font-size because these might increase the overall usability of the site.

Overall there isn’t much wrong with your design, but you definately need to invest some time now adding the finishing touches to it. This might be tweating the hover image on the navigation menu to something more jaw-dropping (play around with some photoshop styles a nice glass effect would work nicely).

    Good luck!

    Some super quick critique:

Your colour choices are not helping. Yellow looks good when pure, but mix it with black and it just turns into a muddy, dirty mess. You have also got a bit of a burnt / dirty looking globe image with a yucky green edge. Look at other designs that use yellow successfully and try and learn from that. Hope that is helpful.
