Hi everyone :D,

I got an idea how to encourage buyers to rate your files. Idea is very simple make separate item specifically for this purpose and attach it to your help file as a Thank you gift for rating your file.

So what do you guys think about it?
If you have more ideas please share it here.

Hi Folksnet, I think any idea that encourages more feedback from the buyers always a positive thing. I didn’t quite understand what you mean. How do you attach an item to your help file? Something like a link to your personal website, where the buyer can download a bonus item? If so, that could work, but you still would depend on the kindness of the buyer to rate your file after the purchase. But yes, it’s a great idea and could work.

You know, when we talk about buyer ratings, most of us think that the buyer does not rate the file because it takes too long, or something similar, and it makes sense, but I have another crazy theory. I believe some buyers do not rate the file because they don’t want the file to become popular. Why? Because the less popular the file is, the more exclusive it becomes, therefore the buyer has something unique which not many people have. I know, terrible thing, but who knows, always worth considering different angles!

Anyway, hope we get some more ideas flowing here. I might start using your idea for my next items! Great post.

Maybe a way to prove they’ve given a rating?

The note in help file would look like this; I would like to thank you for rating my file with a little gift. |Download your gift|. Link itself doesn’t take you anywhere buyer download the file by clicking it.

I made unique item for this purpose and the item available only as a thank you gift. If this works I will make whole bunch of them and include different one for different item.

About a reason why buyers not rating the files I think your theory make sense and some buyers might do that. But most of buyers I think just need a reason and sometimes the file itself could be a reason but sometimes file itself not good enough reason. So we need to do something extra.

Hey Folksnet,

Your idea is great! I must admit that I’m afraid that people might download the gift and never get to give you the ratings at all. But surely it’s worth the trying.

I think that most people don’t rate, because once they’ve downloaded the files, they get so involved with the files, that they simply forget about it.

I read your discussion and Dzinc’s theory made me think of something.

What if we had a limited sales item. I mean, an item with a limited number of sales. It could cost twice the price, or even less. This would be very appealing to this users that want exclusivity on their items like Dzinc said.

I though on something like this: A Flyer limited to 5 sales.. Once it gets to 5 sales, the item is removed of the marketplace and that’s it.

There pros and cons, but what do you guys think about that?
