How do you make graphics created in CS5 compatible with CS?

Save it using Maximum Compatibility (prefs > file handling) and don’t use features only available in versions above it. Personally I only go as far back as CS2 .
edit: this is for Photoshop by the way. Might be different for other apps.
yeah i think this is the solution, meaning CS can still not be able to read the .psd files right?
thank you
It should usually be able to at least open it but that doesn’t help much if the PSD doesn’t work correctly. Basically if you want it to work in CS you are limited to what CS can do no matter what version it’s created in. With that in mind, just save it normally and it will load without any extra steps.
Some examples…
CS5 EXT has 3D image based lighting. If I use that on a 3D layer and try opening that file in CS4 EXT , it will recognize all the 3D features and open the file but that specific layer effect will simply be missing. That changes the look of the file, it would be as if I had never even used it.
CS2 has smart objects, CS does not as far as I know. If I open a file with smart objects in CS, they will probably be missing or rasterized (not sure what happens, I’ve never tried it).
CS4 has perspective transform on a smart objects. Many mockups use this feature. If you open it in CS3 , it will look and function identically until you try and save the smart object changes. When you edit then re-save the smart object, it won’t look correctly anymore because CS3 does not have the ability to re-transform the smart object in perspective.
CS3 has smart filters, meaning you can apply filters like Gaussian Blur on smart objects and they appear under it as an editable effect. CS2 does not have this ability, so if you open it in CS2 they will simply be missing from the smart objects probably as if you had never used them. If you open it in just CS the entire layer may be missing or rasterized or something like that.
Feel free to ask if anything is unclear or you have more questions!

wow this is so well explained, well i think you have explained what i was looking for and even more i now understand, i have not used so much of the 3d features but i guess this is a great guide on how best to get great results under which version.
thanks alot i appreciate, ill definitely do that.

If you are right… then how some authors use or create their perspective design in cs2 or cs3 or lower version… ?
Do you have any idea about this… ? Then please…
Thanks..

This is only for perspective and distort on smart objects. Previous versions still have these functions on normal layers. Other options like rotate, scale, and I think maybe skew/warp(not sure!) are still available on smart objects. These can sometimes be enough depending on the angle.
From Adobe PS CS3 HelpWith Smart Objects, you can: • Perform nondestructive transforms. You can scale, rotate, or warp a layer without losing original image data or quality because the transforms don’t affect the original data. (Some transform options, such as Perspective and Distort, aren’t available.

I also talking about Smart Object deiby. I know this info a little bit… but problem is some authors make some perspective mockup in cs2… That’s why i am confused.. I suggest please check ranfirfly’s some logo mockup. He is one of our elite author. Then you will understand why i asked that question… Please reply… Thanks…
I don’t want to single anyone out, but sometimes versions are listed incorrectly by mistake.
