how did you started ?

hi developers ! i’m a little newbie in designing and developing themes and templates , i have created 1 html template and 1 wordpress theme , but both of them rejected by envato staff , designs was unique and good , i don’t know why the items rejected . anyway , i’m sure there were some problems (which i couldn’t find) that the items rejected ! now i want to start designing as well as you , i started by searching on net , and found some psd to html tutorials , but i couldn’t find them helpful ! everytime i tried to start designing , when i saw your designs , i have completely disappointed ! cuz i think there is a long way between you designers and me ! but i insist on learning what you learned (theme designing) i have started with downloading ready and complete templates from internet , and changing the tags and css’es & watching the result . but i think this isn’t quite well way to learn ! how did you started to learn and design themes ? how much time did it take ? and now , how do you design your themes ? first psd then html and wordpress ? or a different method ? please help me !

i know u want to help me , but i’m trying to edit the designs , so i can’t post them here . thanks . but , for example , my designs have some features that every themeforest theme has . like superfish dropdown menu , hoverintent , sliders , portfolio and more … in advance , my question is how did you started to learn and design themes ?

I just looked at other themes here. And created my own style of themes based on inspiration.

well , this is a nice way to learn how to design stylish themes , but at start , how did you code it ?

I started with this lessons

I don’t think you can start so easy in making templates from the beginning. First thing you need is to make simple sites, that don’t require the level of sophistication and customization needed in the stock area. You need to learn & experience how the html, css & all that work with real content before making heavy standardized stuff like the templates. Editing stuff you already find on the internet can help… but building it from the beginning makes you understand better how it works.
It’s a lot to learn and I’m sure ThemeProvince had already a background in webdev before making templates for this market.

i have some basic experiences , for example : i know html tags completely , 70-75 % css tags , 70-75 % of wordpress tags . and now i can start designing a basic (very simple) html template and convert it to wordpress . but problem is when i try to design some professional templates like ThemeForest designs .

I am planning to start by creating small things first like some web elements.

Same thing here. I start doing the design and I stumble upon some template here and literally get depressed because mine isn’t as pretty. I am planning to start by creating small things first like some web elements.
