I was just looking at the Sony VAIO Z Series – and I must say, I’d buy it over a current-gen macbook pro. With an Intel i7, 1GB dedicated graphics memory, 14 hours battery life (with the sheet battery you can get for it), and plus – it weights 2.57 pounds and is 0.66” thin.

Check it out here: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644570897#carbonSilver

It is a PC though, so the webcam has an ugly black border round it when the rest of the frame is silver (if you choose silver) and the trackpad has this ugly black thing on it which I assume is the microphone, though I could be wrong.

And the horrid IO bezel and the slots and toggles at the front side.. And those pesky lights/buttons right between the screen and keyboard.. The keyboard is a nice and smooth though – reminds me of the MBA :sarcasm: From the specs I read that the thingy near the trackpad is not a microphone though; it’s the biometric fingerprint reader. To make your detective-games more vivid, I guess.

Guess the specs are pretty ok for the size and price as well

@DannyLee does that not completely defeat the purpose of an ultra-portable?

Haha yep Joost it does

But for me personally though a large screen is a necessity so im doomed to a life or large machines

My current laptop (a Dell Q17R ) has been an excellent choice, as the battery, screen, keyboard and light weight sum up to the best machine iv ever had :)

It’s strange – myself and many others could design a functional good looking laptop in no time, but a large company just cannot seem to do it.

Beware; it’s always easier to sit on the side and criticize, though ;)

Here’s something even better, from the always sexy Samsung:

It’s 15”, isn’t ugly, and has an amazing touchpad.
