I’ve been reading about open source fonts and GFL . I have an idea that I want to work on where the font is part of the design. How would I find out if a font is open source? I want to follow the site guidelines but require this prior to starting the design.
Thank you.
What you need to do is check out the licensing terms on the website of the font. Generally you are looking for an ‘extended license’. The terms need to clearly state that the file has been authorized for resale.
Care to link? I can give it a quick read.
Here’s the link to a possible font: http://www.tenbytwenty.com/license-agreement
Hi again!
Point 3: Products may not be resold or redistributed.
As you can see that restricts you from reselling the font. Now it depends on your file whether or not the upload would be accepted. If it’s simply dummy text then you just follow the regular procedure and make sure to mention the font + link in the description and a help file inside the .zip archive.
Thanks for your cooperation!
I’m planning to use good old arial for the project I have in mind. The letters are actually part of the art simular to using the letters to create an image or make up the frame of the character. I have a sample but don’t want to post it in the open forum until I’m sure about it.

Ah, a ‘Calligramme’ (EN: Concrete Poetry). Very nice indeed.
