It’s a good topic although TLF is not a popular method when you load on the fly mostly due to lack of understand of the Text Layout engine, when you load a TLF font on external swf sometime there is a little side problem as the TLF will generate a SWZ file that store the AS code needed to display TLF font ,on first loading external swf TLF font, sometime the font swf get error cos ` there is no tell that the SWZ need to be load before the actual SWF font as it call the SWZ base on run-time sometime you get a problem cos` TLF cannot stream..
If you embed TLF on the IDE then its not a problem cos` the SWZ been embed on share library already, with on the fly you don’t have this option, this apply if your text box is on pure AS and not on IDE ,since this is going to be the prefer method as the IDE platform is slowly been abandon .
Personally i think TLF engine is one of the biggest disappointment on Adobe platform as this was the alternative for the old text habit, sloppy programming if you ask me by Adobe team and complex unclear AS3 syntax ,RTL still is a problem in away . Chinese was a great add on with the vertical layout but i never saw yet a web site that the text been submit base on the old Chinese traditional ways as vertical via xml or something ..cos` basically Asian font are a big headache due to there size in weight on the embed .
One of the sad things that was never been resolve in a good way is the embed way with flash font; they just need to learn from the HTML preference how to embed fonts, or hey even from the After Effect text engine.
Bottom line flash developers ignore most of the TLF engine syntax and stick to the old fashion text field, but on a personal level i use TLF not a lot , but i do trash that engine from day one due to the Adobe sloppy job .
