slightly redundant don’t you think? I mean nobody actually said you’re not allowed to stamp a HUUUGE banner saying you’re elite on your own profile page, or within item description, but to include it in the interface, while you already own the badge is well… redundant. In my opinion at least, but what do I know about such things

That’s the idea – we’re not sure many buyers will hover over the little obscure author Elite badge/know what it means!

Horrible news for every non-Elite author! Who will buy from us now?
I am slightly displeased.
What’s next? Only Elite items being displayed on the homepage? A special Elite section with only elite items? Elite authors are Elite authors for a reason – they get loads of sales anyhow (correct me if I’m wrong). We are fighting for every sale.
I understand this is all about profit for Envato and Elite authors sure brought/bring the most money;
but I am starting to believe themeforest is getting hostile against non-Elite authors and working on here gets more and more useless for non-Elite authors because chances are getting lower to reach this status and Envato seems to only push and help Elite.

[edit] I think envato has done a great job at helping authors, even non-elite ones. Look at the loss they have taken to help authors earn more:
