Does this sound fair?

Hi… again.

I have yet another question. Seems this is a good place to talk to you guys. Lets say I have a hypothetical company that has thousands of users (lets just say 100,000-200,000). Users watch videos on our website (that are all really good and loved by everyone).

What if we put video ads in front of the video (like tv commercial) in the video and charged the advertisers per view? Would that be fair? I mean most online sites charge per click don’t they? Or can I make it super cheap per view, but if a user clicks, we charge a little extra?

How much $$ per view would seem fair? and how much $$ per click would seem fair?

Thanks !

i dont know what the $ would be but in terms of a concept it’s a no brainer really – go for it.

YouTube has those little ads on them, which are okay. I think Dailymotion do a full blown 30 second advert before soem of their videos, the trick is letting your users skip it.

Good luck, I hope you get some added income from it.

Yes, I have many advertising ideas. Hopefully it’ll add some income. Its not the main source of my business model, but its the one I’ll start with.

Other ideas I have is having a customized skin and background while video is being watched.

I think this is also a nice feature. The user can watch the clip without being stressed out. If you take a look at megavideo.com they always show some poker advertise before the movie starts and you have to click on it. It becomes very annoying so don’t do things which let user rage ;)

Probably the best model is to sell sponsorship for the particular video or for the month or whatever and not charge per viewing. That is how tv or magazines work. The cost for sponsoring is based on the likely number of viewers but not directly.

Isn’t this being done as commonplace now? Not sure why you wouldn’t do it.

Thats not what I want to do. I don’t want to have click to open ad thing, its really annoying. And megaupload sometimes opens ads even though I just click play, thats just not user friendly. I’d rather make no money than annoy my visitors 8-)

Yeah, I love that idea. I had it before but I thought I would lack the credibility to do this. How much would sound fair? $1000/month? Wouldn’t it be better to charge less and work my way up?

Thanks guys!
