One thing to keep in mind is that this isn’t really out of the norm for Google. Most of their business is made up by obtaining information about their users so that they can better serve ads and other things…
I really don’t mind if they manage some ads or whatever based on some kind of preferences or data they could recover from my usage of their products (search engine, email service, etc.) but taking ownership and freedom to do whatever with the stuff i storage or send through my email is far (really far) away from my worse expectations about legal terms.
I am somehwat intrigued as to the legality of their Terms too.
Surely if you are “paying” to host files, then as a paying user you deserve to keep distribution intact under your title

“If you are not paying for it, you’re not the customer; you’re the product being sold.” Not necessarily something fundamentally wrong, though – just good to be aware of.
Well, am I only one here who will switch from Dropbox to Google Drive?

I got my invite on day one but have not even looked at it yet. No real need for a service like this with 2TB of space
Also, for backup I have externals, I have used gmail since the beta invite only days and trust them more than most sites but still would not feel comfortable using them as a backup solution.

laranz saidI read the TOC , and I’m fine with it. It’s not that black and white like you think. You can read more here: http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/25/2973849/google-drive-terms-privacy-data-skydrive-dropbox-icloud

Anyway, I don’t use gDrive for my themes and templates backup (not yet for sure). I actually use two external HDs for that.

just a question. what if I encrypt everything?
Just got it working. I think I’ll stop using my Dropbox account from now on. I use the Google cloud for all sorts of things and GD is well integrated into this. That said, this service is really not an innovation as Google would have it…:)
