DEEPLINKING

While deep-linking is a very good compliment to a template what I find very disturbing is Authors developing these templates that changing the name of the deep-linking titles seems quite tedious. No client wants to see their site home-01-02, it is not atheistically appealing … While i do like the feature I would assume that authors put themselves in the clients position when developing these templates and ask themselves would i want my site to read http://www.mysite.com/#/content-00

A lot of times it’s user dependent. With my recent file the deeplinking works the same way regular file strucute would. http://mysite.com/#/web/

The key is the ending has to be a unique ID. You can’t have 2 ids that are the same.

thats true, but how about being able to edit the deeplinking to what u want it to be

After 3000+ templates sold with custom deep links I can tell you that almost 70% of buyers have problems with that because they don’t understand how it works… I’ve seen so many guys using the deep link strings in a way that break everything… web URLs cannot have special characters but many don’t understand that and most of the times the result is a broken website.

The use of auto generated numeric deep links is the most secure way to go, especially with templates sold for few bucks to people that have low technical skills.

I have in many of my templates a node for each item called UNIQUE _DEEP_LINK and I’ve seen people (1000+) entering the same string for every photo or whatever… probably they don’t understand what UNIQUE means, I don’t know… these features create a ton of support requests and I understand if someone uses auto generated numeric strings.

In any case, to use a custom string instead of the default generated link is a 10/20 minutes editing… so buyers should learn something (study) to edit the files they buy in the way they want…

Parker thats the point that I am trying to make, I am not trying to call any author out but FLASHDRIVEN latest template, deep-linking can be edited via the XML .. now I have no problem editing where wether via xml or whatever, but some templates are designed in such a way its like trying to find a needle ina haystack .. just saying if you going to put deep-linking give the user the option to edit VIA XML , or something quite simple.. just saying

I agree, but my Mirror and Black Gold templates give the option to set the deep links into the xml files and for that reason many have broken everything… the Elegant and the Pearl White use directly the titles of the contents… I had to add a new xml setting and all the new code to handle it in every template for those that were not able to use it in a correct way (some have same titles for different contents, believe me or not)... so they can chose to use strings or auto generated unique ids.

Being an author is very hard, if you’re not an author you can’t understand what happens behind the scenes…

Buyers have the great power to ask before to buy, so it’s very very useless to complain. If a file doesn’t have what you want you can chose to not buy…

If a file has all the necessary amenities eg. changing the deep-link VIA XML then it is onus of the buyer to understand what he or she is doing…

I am a designer and I do understand that at times clients have no idea what they want, until they see the finnish product. That said I am no way going to just put something out without having the client having the option of changing what they want..

The matter at hand is not about if the option is present to change the deep linking titles, buyers screw the file up, then thats their problem. The issue is when a buyer wants to have the option to change but that option is not there!!

Also this is not about if a file does not what you want then don’t purchase that file .. I have purchase a certain template and a feature that i wanted was not there, i purchase that said component from same author, had no trouble getting both to work … SOME AUTHORS ON ACTIVEDEN (without calling names) ARE JUST ON POINT WITH WHAT THEY ARE DOING !!
