I’ve been having issues creating metaboxes for my theme.. does anyone have any tutorial they can suggest for this? I’m just trying to create an addition textarea on the post page so I can add content that will be going into the footer instead of the post

Just use the built in custom fields… they are what you need and you don’t have to add anything else to your heme.
