Blog Design rejected

Hi guys,

im in need of some help.

I recently submitted my Tumblr Theme to Themeforest and got rejected.

If you maybe could take a look at it and give me some tips on how to improve the design or if i should start over from scratch i would be very grateful.

very ordinary… much hard work require. plz search tumbler themes in TF and get inspiration from them, then u will be with your innovative design.

I like the minimilism, however I agree that it is very ordinary.

Essentially the key to any design is to deliver a message, and while it’s a bit better on a hi-res screen, in a low res screen all that will come across is the title and not much else.

Typography could also be improved, other than background there is no differentiation between title and text. Also if you plan on sticking with the background color on titles, it should be a fixed size and not just the length of the word or phrase.

I think for the blue boxes on the left (3 days ago, 1 note etc…) it would have more of an impact, and less of an effect on the design if they where icons or had supporting icons (get rid of the blue background). Also on that box the two bottom elements (comments and permalink) are links, but there is no way of telling just by looking at it.

On the previous note, links are not easily identifiable. What can you click on the page? non-link elements (eg: //about, //navigation, 3 days ago, 1 note) are styled similar to links (search. New Theme st1 released, Permalink) and have no :hover effect.
