Best format for iPad 2 playing with Sony Nex-5 MTS files

I shot collections of videos for my daughter birthday with my Sony Nex-5. And I would love to share them in iPad 2 with my family. My question is how I convert my Sony Nex-5 AVCHD (MTS) files into Ipad MP4 format? MTS resolution is 1920 by 1080. After I convert, what would be my resulting Ipad MP4 resolution?

Also, for Ipad 3 (new ipad), is it possible to convert MTS files in higher MP4 resolution?

Thank your for your reply, but It seems doesn’t work. What I mean is : The iTunes will not sync mts files. And I want to add the mts files to iTunes so that I can sync them to my iPad. Thanks!

i have the nex 5 too, i use adobe encoder cs5, it came with my creative suite, youll have many formats to choose from.

Handbrake is very good. Appears to be supporting MTS too.
