Best Backup Drives - Your opinions please

Client of mine wants to go Solid State Drive, any recommendations?

My Passport.

^ WD MyPassport series are not SSD .
And in my opinion (talking about HDD drives, i think i’ve used and test all brands on market) MyPassport series sucks. Different connection cable, hard drive partiotioned by default, displaying 2 disks on system while connecting (not possible to remove the partition, just to “hide” it on each system, and more details… enough to be not recommended, imho)

Back on topic, wonder when SSD drives will low the pricing.

But why would anyone want a ssd as a backup drive?

Are there any Solid State Drives available as Externals yet? (EDIT: Yes, I see some online).

The client told me: ” I need solid state back up as something major goes wrong with every external drive back up that I’ve ever bought within a few months. They always fail with all my stuff inside it and never last more than a year. The last one was most expensive yet and has a warranty but is only operating when it feels like and that’s always a sign it’s going to stop completely.”

I myself have 7 Eternals for Backing up files, LACIE , Passport, and others – they still work okay after years.

Depends if you let them sit on your desk, or throw them around Then an SSD might be the better call. They’re still quite expensive, though, and as it’s an external drive he won’t profit as much from the increased speed of flash memory.. Personally I wouldn’t opt for SSD as a backup solution, but apparently HDD ’s have it out for him

Basically told her the same.

If you simply want to back up drives that is full of files and folders, I would always go for HDD . SSD is actually my primary drive.

SDD is for speed… HDD is for backup on my pc…
