(Locked) Be aware of this person

I don’t want to break any law, so I censored the real username, until I’ll have Envato’s staff permission to publish it.

Short time after my first item got into the marketplace, someone called ”....” (http://themeforest.net/user/....) offered himself to convert it to WordPress. My term was that the item will submit through my account, and he said fine. I asked him how much this convert will take – “2 weeks”, he said. After something like 3 days I agreed for the partnership offer.

28.3.2012, That’s the day I shared my decision with him, so I asked his skype so I can send him the source files. Almost a month pass, and yet he’s not answering to any of my requests to show me any-kind-of progress, whether if he’s done or not. He’s always avoiding my messages.

I don’t know what about this guy, but If I’m not capable to do something, then I just don’t do it at first place. I feel deceived, really. He have no legal way to get the files except buying it.

It doesn’t makes sense at all, If you worked hard on something, why won’t you show it to your partner? and especially if he’s asking.. won’t you show him something? anything? isn’t it suspicious?

I tried to contact with Envato Support, but unfortunately there is nothing they can do (which, with all due respect, doesn’t make sense either)

What would you do? I wouldn’t be so mad if this weird guy told me “I won’t be able to finish the job, I’m sorry”, but he didn’t.

Been aware from whom? You probably just got screw …..For next time try not to pick anonymous person, all this cases with people have problem with freelance jobs, Next time just pick someone reliable doing freelance jobs from this community.
99% people get burn trying to save money as possible and gumball on developer that don’t care much about his portfolio .
I never heard an issue here about well-known dev`/designer playing game with clients…also convert a template to WordPres is not an easy task …. It’s like making a full new template in must case and for someone who don’t know the template doing so, he really needs to be good…. very good.
Look like someone just wants a free copy from you, one of those homeless kids…..

That’s the point, this person is known on Envato. He’s a disgrace for this community, what a shame. He have 6 items, I checked every single one of them before I agreed. I also waited a couple of days before I told him my answer. I took all the precautions, I did everything right. I’m so different from these kind of people you mentioned.

He’s from this marketplace. this community. True – no one forced me to collaborate this person, and yeah I’m the one to blame bla bla – he’s an author here, how can you shut your eyes? It’s happening here. Don’t you care, a bit, about your community? If that case would’ve happen to you, what would you expect?

So someone offered to convert the file to wordpress, and they never did it?

Was anything lost, like money or source files?

Or the other author simply never got back to you after the initial offer?

So, this thread is because you lost $5? I don’t see it that important, you sent him the file, now what he can do? use it for his website? You got screwed, now move on, it’s not a big deal.

Officially, Envato (and Envato support) cannot do anything about deals made between individuals outside the borders of the community, regardless if both persons are part of the community. I guess that’s what Support told you as well. It would be a shame if this would not be possible due to a lack of trust, though, and usually (dare I say nearly all the time) such lack of trust is due to a missunderstanding or ill-formulated terms of agreement.

This is very naive thing to say. Perhaps you right, though it’s extremely unlikely. You’re on holiday? isn’t your partner should know that? Again, It’s not in this case, for sure.

Personally I’ve been gone for periods of 4-6 days easily without sending a message to all my clients, though – sure, I’d notify the ones I’m working closely with, but judging from the rest of your story you hardly had any contact. When I’d go off the radar for a few days (busy coursework, exams, personal stuff, short holidays), I only notify clients with who I expected contact during the period I’d be gone – the rest can probably wait a few days.

Are you sure he disappeared? I mean, no response for a few days could be anything. Did you ever explicitly request him to show the work so far? Did he explicitly deny?

Curiosity made me check out if I could find anyone who matched the description, but I failed. Regardless, I put my mod-hat on and I’ve censored the sales count, prohibiting anyone else from pinpointing and publically naming and shaming this author. I appreciate the fact that you did not name him in your OP
