I’m not the world’s best coder as I prefer to design but I’ve been looking into coding before I start a Web Applications Development course at University soon.
Looking around I see some software that looks pretty good (I tried Dreamweaver years ago but couldn’t get on with it), Artiseer and Serif WebPlus X4…anybody have any experience of these two ?
I’ve been using Dreamweaver since it’s inception. I used Homesite prior to that. Macromedia developed Dreamweaver’s coding platform from Homesite. To me it seems that Dreamweaver has gotten very bloated and much less intuitive for me. I have found it cumbersome to use. I’ve investigated CMS ’s such as Drupal, Wordpress, etc., and none appeal to me. On a fluke I tried Webplus X5. In two days I totally re-created three of my websites. I’ve had 2 questions with the software’s use, and within 15 minutes I got an answer from either their support or their support forum. Both issues were due to user error, I might add.
Webplus X5 is very easy to use, an incredibly low learning curve for anyone who is already familiar with another tool such as Dreamweaver, and lots of training videos available all over the web.

Now if we could prod Envato to start a Webplus Template section in ThemeForest…
I recently downloaded a landing page theme from themeforest thinking that it was a Wordpress theme. I later realised that it was a html theme. I like the theme so much that I want to try to get to grips with it.
Do any of you know how I can get my html theme to appear on webplus as it is supposed to. I have no clue about how to use html themes.

This will NEVER happen, you are talking about an app that auto-generates HORRIBLE code. If you use this app on a clients site then you are doing your clients more harm then anything.
The coding is horrible on Webplus?
What would you suggest a newbie do if he wanted to use a html theme on here and edit it slightly for his own website. I’m happy using CMS but the theme I really want is a html theme. I initially brought it by accident, thinking it was a Wordpress theme.
I was wondering if there is a way I can import the files into something like Dreamweaver or Serif Webplus and edit it all from there? I’m a complete newbie and I don’t see there being much chance of it happening if I’m having to use a pure html code editor.
I would suggest you hire someone to do those edits for you. If it is not much work you can find a lot of people here on themeforest who are willing to do it for a reasonable price.

I’ve heard very similar comments from Wordpress users regarding Dreamweaver, and Dreamweaver users about Wordpress, and Drupal users about Expression, and so on.
I seriously doubt that a ‘client’ is going to be too concerned about the coding structure of their site, as long as it works well for them.
