I believe that this should fall on to the reviews decision.
If the item is being sold and there is copyrighted material for stock imagery being used then an extended licence should be asked for or at least proof.
I have used stock imagery in my own work but for all I have an extended licence… Am I the only one who does this? I also show proof of the extended licence on submitting of my item.

I use images which have free for commercial use license.
But TBH , shouldn’t this be discussed in private since it doesn’t really look good here in public and some replies are hinting that files here are violating copyrights which might scare potential buyers. Just my personal opinion though.

Let me know where it can be discussed in private and I will do so
but I dont think it is hurting anyone to know that such things go on…. until someone says it then no one knows.

LOL I dunno tbh but it doesn’t look good to me. May be with support?
As I said it’s just my personal opinion.
Edit: Oh and I just meant some replies. Not the thread itself. It’s a good topic but I just don’t want it turn into another blaming each other thread. That makes me sad.

Oh I agree
I dont think peoples names or items should be pointed out just the fact that this is going on and something needs to be put in place.
I could go off tomorrow and create 3 items from illegal stock out there and no one here would be non the wiser…. why because they dont check for licences
Now the argument maybe that this is falls on the author but as pointed out earlier Envato makes a profit off the file so some of the blame can still be held with Envato for not have checks in place.
Im not attacking Envato or trying to get it a bad name… quite the oppersite I wish to protect it and make it a fairer place for everyone.

As long as it’s used only in the preview demo I don’t think there is any problem!uff bro.. it’s a huge problem. money > copyrighted material. Have you heard of Megaupload? If you use the photo of a famous brand/logo to sell something of yours, you’re illegally making money out of it.
Listen friends, it’s not hard, instead of using agelina Jolie, use a photo of Jhon Doe. Simple
Have you heard of megaupload? That’s a complete misjudgement.
These kind of images even popular sites use just to have a better view of the their content. These images are spread all over marketplaces and believe me envato does really take seriously copyrighted material, you can use psdtuts as a reference. I think they would take immediate actions if that was true.

No offence intended
but blaming has to happen, this is about about copyright issues; keep silent and the issues will only increase…
And if files are violating copyrights, I think buyers might like to know even though it’s not their responsibility.

What about a report copyright button on the items page that flags the item and with enough flags on the item it gets removed and reviewed by a reviewer?

@Raincutter no sorry my friend, I think it’s best to talk about this in public, there are a lot of silent readers who probably didn’t even considered these facts. Buyers influenced? maybe but we need to talk about this, and there’s no private forum for authors.
@Quickandeasy yes that’s what Envato actually think is legal or correct. I’ve investigated and talked with many persons of the sector, they all agree with this point: if you are using copyrighted material to earn money out of it, is illegal.
Megaupload was an example: they were earning both from legal and illegal files, since the Premium accounts did have access to whatever file was stored.
I opened this thread because I didn’t want to blame anyone, and I’d like to see a constructive conversation. Me too I used copyrigted material for my presentation guys, and I’m just looking for an answer/solution to my thoughts.
