Hey, that’s the Nikon D5000 . It shoots professional photographs and also records HD videos. I got this D5000 plus a 18-105mm NIKKOR lens (so not the almost-disposable default lens) for €680, which I consider a great deal.Some great features are the flexible (‘move-able’) screen, which allows you to take photos of complicated positions/perspectives, and it offers a live-preview which simulates a video recorder. As far as quality goes, it just keeps beating the hell out of my expectations. The colors (this point goes generally out for Nikon) are intense, vibrant and beautiful. Another aspect I definitely like is the pricing;
Nikon has a little brother which produces lenses (NIKKOR), which obviously specialize on Nikon, as it is the same company. Another funky thing is that, if you’d ever happen to have one hand only, the design of the Nikon allows you to do everything with the other (menu, shoot, focus, etc.).
So yeah, sorry for the Nikon-directed promotion, but I feel it’s almost a duty to let everyone know how amazing this baby is. If you ever need more info, just let me know![]()
I must agree with you, Chris. IMO , Nikon camera’s body design is the greatest and most handy of all DSLR I ’ve ever tried. The D5000 is a great one at entry level. It does have many features of the higher model. The only minor thing does not satisfy me is it doesn’t have a motor built-in body, which means the auto focus function only works with AF-S lenses – often higher at price
. Another reason is in my region, the kit only goes with a 18-55mm AFS , not a 18-105 like yours . It’s great that you have a 18-105, the quality is great (even greatest as a lens in the kit) – I’m sure. Trying out some fixed lenses would bring you to another experiences, they’re all awesome.
I have not gained enough money yet, but if possible I think I gotta buy a D90 , or a D7000 if I can. The D5000 / D3000 series sadly will discontinue in few months, and will be replaced by D3100 .
Of course, your photos are great, I think so

I just have a few words regarding the D5000 :
Get a good lens (mine is quite sufficient, and it came bound within the kit for €700. The camera plus that lens alone would have cost me 1040€, so it was a damn good deal).
Additionally, if you are into macro photography (as most of us are), buy a macro-filters kit for less than US$20 on eBay. I bought one which includes a +1, +2, +4 and +10 filter that can be easily screwed upon the lens’ head. You can even combine them. The result is 99.9% similar to that of a professional macro lens.

Thanks. Macro is my favorite. I planned of buying some filter soon for that purpose. It does help save a lot of money for a professional lens :”>

Hey, about lens for night photography I recommend a 50mm f1.4 lens. In general, Nikkor lenses with F-stop from F1.4 to F2.8 deals good with low light, and provide brilliant quality. You should buy an AF-S lens, as with D5000 only that type can help auto-focus. An external flash device is good, too. Maybe a SB600 or SB800 for Nikon. You can try playing at long exposure, using a tripod – that’s great so

But I am considering to sell my d5000 and get the d90. Just about to buy my first lens and I notice that the price different of a af-s lens and a normal lens is .. huge! about 3X the price! So, for long run, I think a camera with a built-in motor will be good, no?
I post my photo on my facebook account
and flickr too
