3d fun but low sales

i really like working in cinema 4d but all i see selling in the site is paguthrie’s hdri photos. i think that a way to make money out of 3d is prerendered 3d animation for a logo reveal or placing text/videoholders in after effects. always prerendered. whats your opinion?

Well, what paguthrie sells, aren’t mere photos but rather HDRI environments, which are not so easy to come by elsewhere, hence his high amount of sales (add to that the fact that his quality of files is also astonishing and you get a better picture).

There are other files you can create, that don’t require pre-rendering. You just need to keep in mind what sort of market you’re targeting. First off, anyone who buys from 3DO either is a 3D artist, owning a copy of a 3D package, or a studio that requires assets quickly for their own job. Hence, if you were to take the time and create a set of environments suitable for corporate usage, or some key objects, you’d still be able to sell quite a bit.

My own example, would be the steelseries syberia headphones, which since their upload, sold about 15 times or more. The key to success within a stock marketplace is volume paired with quality. Have a lot of files, and maintain a high quality… and by the end of the year, you’ll start seeing the sales piling up. I guarantee that.

Second example is a file I did 2 years ago for GR, which even yesterday just sold… I personally would have removed it from the marketplace, as it doesn’t correspond to my current quality standards, but that would be counterproductive.

My advice to you, is start creating assets, spread them across two or more marketplaces within envato, and then worry about what sells best… After your first few sales, and a considerable amount of files, you can start reading out required items and upload in a more focused manner. But most important : DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED .

I found that models that people can customise further, feature there artwork on, etc. Sell a lot more. My CD Case 3D model (created in C4D ) has sold 50 times now! Think of something that you use quite a lot and make a model of it. It’s sure to be something that other people use a lot too.
