Hey,
I have a question about setting up a very small scale ecommerce site. Basically I need to setup a site that sells about 8-10 products, very small. I was curious about how some of you would go about setting this up.
I think something like prestashop, magento, or what not would be a little overkill. Personally I’d like to setup a XHTML / CSS site that can just have these products listed, and product pages somehow tied into a shopping cart. Is this possible? I saw there’s some shopping carts on codecanyon, but are these the kind i could integrate into a static XHTML / CSS website? I’ve never setup an ecommerce site before to be honest. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
As a regular regular customer of themeforest, as well as multiple items from Kriesi (which are fantastic btw), I would love to see a forum where I can search for already solved problems rather than waiting for the author to have time to answer a question.
I don’t specialize in wordpress, so being able to purchase items here is wonderful. However they can be pretty complicated sometimes.
I’ve gone down this road with a few items. Searching pages and pages of other problems or bugs posted by other customers cause I try to be respectful of the authors time. Something to think about as well is that its not just a time sink for the authors, but the customers as well. I would much rather be making progress on the site rather than having to search by skimming comments or waiting on an email response.
I think streamlining author support with a forum would be great, and show significant improvement down the road with sales, even though it might take some legwork here and now. I personally would be more likely to purchase templates from authors with support forums.
Just thought I’d weigh in as a customer.
I’ve weened almost all support for ie6 in my website works. Once Google renounced it, I did as well.
My favorite PNG fix is the ie7 or ie8 js from Dead Edwards.
Thank you for the advice!
I’ll probably mess around with some of that stuff in not to long, but I think I shall be defaulting to flash to get this done. IE is always providing the fun challenges haha.
Hey Everyone,
I Have a quick question for how some of you might approach this home page animation I’ve had requested from a friend. I’m putting together a website for him thats just a go to place for information on him professionally. He’s just graduating college and is using this as another form of information for potential employers. He’s an accountant so there’s no portfolio or anything
.
But back to the problem, instead of having a jquery slider or something of that sort on the main page under a tagline he’d like a wordle. This wordle has 10-15 different descriptive words about him and also include links that are the same as the navigation (about me, resume, recommendations, contact, etc). He asked if its possible to have mouse overs on the navigation related words, and have them change color or preferably glow. Each page has a seperate color scheme.
Will I have to resort to flash to get this done or is jquery possible? To be honest I’m still in the beginner stages of jquery.
It’d be more useful if you could provide more constructive insight as to what exactly your problem is rather than randomly ranting. Keep in mind there are a lot of authors on the forums here who help people all the time, and in this group is most likely not the one that’s ignoring you. If you’d like help from one of these great authors after the holidays here, I’d suggest improving your tone and be more specific.
I’m guessing since the site price is in the 30’s you bought a wordpress theme. Have you worked with this CMS before? Do you know how to install wordpress on your server properly so it works before uploading a custom theme?
Hey Paul,
I also have a few themes in the works and have done some research on how exactly to get quality design created and approved. Some of the vets on the forums here pointed me in the direction of http://reviewmydesign.net and it has helped a lot. If a reviewer rejects ya I would just post it on review my design and get detailed critiques. Good luck man.
