i forgot the name of the author, she gave a tf theme to smashingmagazine for free download, changed a little bit here and there and that theme wasnt this exclusive anymore. i can remember there were alot of confusions bc of that file, but she got the permission todo this.

anyway, if an admin reads this its okay, otherwise you should open a support ticket and post the result here. so all of us learnd something new.

Instead of saying that a theme is priced highly based on the author’s popularity, it’s more logical to make the assumption that the reason that they are popular authors is because their work is higher quality (which would explain the price difference).

Sorry to say this but this is not exactly true, sometimes it helps when your a popular author or not, look at kriesi his latest theme Display 3 in 1.

This theme has nothing more to offer then the most themes out here and it was priced at 40 from the beginning, so it sure helps when a author is popular and a good seller, this way themeforest and the author is benefiting from it.

if this is true it is sad, but i have nothing against this here either. i also think authors ( you exampled kriesi ) wont deserve this “popularity” when they dont sell a nearly perfect product ( no question left unanswered in the documentary and/or helpfiles ) and give quick, free or at least cheap support to their themes. because all themes have their limits in usage somewhere i think

interesting to see and follow your comments here. that makes me ask you, did you compare an expensive file from kriesi and a “normal” file from a new author in its usage and documentation? i dont think a name can make a theme more expensive then others since the most follow the same trends, 3 columns, portfoliogallery,now hated cu3er but thats just my opinion and i dont want to offend nor to complain here

I have noticed that the Joomla category is really suffering sales wise and I can’t figure out why – is it the lack of new items or people just like Wordpress better?

Personally I love Joomla and have used it with success in a decent amount of websites.

I also have some ideas for some Joomla templates but don’t know if the time you put into them is going to pay off? i would love to hear some opinions on this topic.

hello, yes its ture ppl like wordpress better, and so do i. wordpress is mostly used for personal projects and for presentation of your work. as you can see the trend of the wordpress themes, there is nothing new to see. i am not here to complain about a the lack of creativity of the use of wp as cms or the look and use of the themes offered here on the market.

joomla instead was always planned and promoted as cms and the useage of it can fit to any needs of you and your client. joomla also has some nice plugins that can make your life much easier. but some joomla developers, for example and without making ads for a company, yootheme or rockettheme go with their own plugins and that makes it limited to your usage i think.

wordpress instead has a very good, knowledged and helpful community behind and every plugin is for free and i am sure you dont find anything you cant do with a joomla plugin.

for example, if you wanna develop a clansite, such as wow or counterstrike, you can do it all with joomla for sure, and very easy ( teamspeak, clanscripts, playerlists, ladders such as esl and forums comes with joomla from the start ) and with wordpress you have todo alot of more work to get the same result. wordpress also has its limits for users and security, with joomla you can handle the rights better.

if you wanna earn money and try to sell your themes and designs, you have to come with something great, unique and outstanding to get the crowd away from joomla. wordpress is my love, easy as 1,2,3 to handle and use and fits my needs bc of the plugins i can get, and implement for free.

only if you hear here wordpress is maybe better, easier…whatever, it shouldnt stop you from doing it – creating what you like. cant wait to see what you can do with joomla

a hairdresser website or design, well, this depends on your needs and your imagination and also, what budget is available. if you find a good design you can start with on this market you can save a lot of money for your first start.

i think you also ask for some special graphics and customizations related to a hairdressers page.

in case you found a theme on themeforest you would really use for your project and business, and you need some minor changes, a little bit here and there, you can always ask the author and ask for a customization. some will offer help for free aslong its not too complicated, but some charge hourly base – to give you a number, between 30-60$

if you need a completely unique work and no customization of an excisting theme i am sure you can find here very talented developer and designer right here in this forum. but all prices/offers lower then 500$ are unrealistic for design, maybe coding too

only beacause you live and work in india doesnt mean you have to sell your soul and work, what all of us see and feel, as too cheap.

freelancing isnt only designing or developing themes, its all design-including writing and publishing articles for example.

if you did some awesome design with some awesome effect you wanna share, why dont you write an article for a blog here and earn a little fee when its published?

i dont wanna start any discussions in what a designer has to charge or earn when it comes to any design or developing-but with all the comments above me you can see there is a big difference

there is also freelancing and freelancing- you help a client to tweak a page a little, or you create an exclusive new page, design and php. i am sure you get many more helpful tips and links, but for starting the freelance-page and blog is very helpful to give you a little more infos.

i highly recommend you reading the tutsplus blog too, and pls allow me, the smashingmagazine. sometimes the comments are better then the entry itself

also, i would try to find out more about freelancing and also get some detailed infos from designers in your near. izzudin helmi just started a new project with designers and developers from around india. i would write him some mail, and maybe you can show him your works…

actually this is making me very sad, i know alot of designers, very nice and talented ppl that are just living in the wrong country. in europe or any other place you could get your yearly rate with just 1 work and this is making me very angry.

cant wait to see your portfolio soon, and maybe you can find some designer who needs a coder or a wordpress guru. how good are you with wordpress?
